Little by little, the beautiful pink petals flowed down the curtain of air that gently brushed against your face. Everything was quiet, the only sound being that indescribable noise that emerged as the air blew into your ear. Your friend stood next to you, his eyes closed, as he took in every sound, feeling, smell, and the taste of the crisp spring air. His soft, silky black hair swung and flew around in the breeze. No matter how beautiful your friend’s home country was, it was never as beautiful of the friendship you have had bloom like the cherry blossoms on the trees around you.
He and you walked around, slowly strolling next to each other. That’s when the silence was broken by him speaking and starting a conversation.
“This area is quite nice,” he said, “I hope you like it as much as I do.”
“I agree with everything you say, Kiku.” You giggled, loving the adorable soothing voice that rung in your ears.
You watched as he spun his body around to catch a small pink petal. You laughed as he held it out to you for some reason.
“Put this in your hair,” he said, “It will look very nice with your (h/c) hair.”
“But, where should I put it?” Okay, he may be a great friend, but he wasn’t always specific about things that he wanted to go on.
He smiled a soft smile and placed the petal right above your ear. His smile then disappeared…
“_____,” he said, “wait here.”
“What are you doing?”
He didn’t respond, but he looked up at the tree that was above both of you before running to the other side of it where there was a low branch. He placed his hand delicately on the branch, pulling off a flower and holding it gently in his hand as he walked over to you. He stood in front of you, pulling the petal from your hair and letting it fall to the ground of the stone path.
“I’m sure you will look very pretty with this,” he said, “since a petal doesn’t seem to highlight you at all.”
“Thanks, Kiku.” You grinned and watched as he placed the flower above your ear.
You decided to joke around a bit… You ran over to the same branch that he was just at, shaking it a bit and catching some petals in your hand. Once you gathered enough petals to pile into Mount Fuji in your hand, you walked over to the Japanese male who was looking at you with a questionable look.
“What are you doing, _____?” He tilted his head a bit and you finally walked in front of him.
“Lean down.” You smirked.
Being completely clueless, he leaned down and you splashed the petals all over him, starting from his head and all the way down his face and body. He stared at you for a moment, his eyes wide. You got worried and you tensed up. Did you do something wrong? Did he now like it? Did he feel uncomfortable? You bit your lip a bit and his mouth parted, letting out a little chuckle.
His chuckling became giggling and his giggling became laughter. You stared at him and just smiled before busting into laughter as well. You loved your best friend and hoped that he would stay close to you forever. Maybe he has the same idea… Once he calmed his laughing, you did as well. Time to ask…
“Kiku?” You stared up at him.
“Yes, _____?” He didn’t refer you as ‘chan’ or ‘san’ since you were close enough to him for him to just call you by your name.
“How long do you think we’ll be friends…?”
He stared at you for a while and you stared back. The cherry blossom in your hair rustled by your ear a bit as the wind blew by.
“_____,” he began, “I will remain by your side, thick and thin, hard and soft, and broad and wide. I will remain your friend even if we are ripped apart because I know our friendship with draw us back together again.”
You smiled… No, you grinned. You were so happy that he said that… However, he may say that now, but that may change someday… So, you decided to spend each day with him giving it your all before that will ever happen… If it will ever happen.
“I will remain your friend until cherry blossoms seize to bloom,” he said, “and as long as you’re alive, the cherry blossoms will always have a reason to open up.”
